Anno 2070 takes place in a near-future environment where climate change has forced humanity to adapt to rising sea levels that have left stretches of once-fertile land completely inhospitable.
The game has three factions: The Eden Initiative (referred to as the "Ecos"), The Global Trust (referred to as the "Tycoons"), and the S.A.A.T. (referred to as the "Tech"). Ecos are environmental and build sustainable cities, but are inefficient and slow to expand.
